James van Engelen
I’ve been playing musical instruments since I was six years old. My first instrument was recorder in primary school and within a few days I was selected for the school band to play trumpet.
I then moved onto tuba and then keyboard in secondary school.
In year ten I started singing and guitar and wrote my first songs. I formed a number of bands and played local fetes and private parties playing covers and original material. I began teaching guitar while I was studying for my Diploma in Education as various council and community groups approached me to teach for them.
Once I graduadated as a teacher, I taught guitar, bass, drums and singing in schools and then also from home.
I have almost always been the front man or one of them in the bands that I have played in. Cover bands, original bands, acoustic duos, and just my self as a solo singer accompanying myself with guitar. Every venue imaginable.
I now teach guitar, bass and singing from my home studio in the afternoons and evenings during the week and work on my own material during the day plus master music for other artists.
